Hello everyone!
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving full of great food and great company. I'm so thankful for all of you who have been following my posts about Michael, and spreading awareness regarding various disabilities. As challenging as it may be to take care of someone who's as disabled as Michael, living with him is definitely what I'm most thankful for in my life.
Michael has an extraordinary sense of compassion for others-- he always knows when someone is upset, and oftentimes reciprocates how others behave relative to their emotions. If someone is happy, Michael will immediately have a smile on his face and laugh with them. If they're upset, he'll start pulling his hair or tapping his head in anger. If someone's sad, Michael will get upset, and sometimes even go and try and comfort the person by touching their arm. Even though he lacks the ability to speak and effectively communicate, he has an amazing sense of understanding for others.
Today we had a very chill Thanksgiving at our house, and Michael loved all of the food! After we were done eating, Michael went over and played with his new trash truck. He kept on playing the music button and listening to the same song over and over again. He loves to repeat things that he likes-- he used to take his firetruck into the bathroom, turn off the lights so it was dark, and watch the sirens-- sometimes for almost a whole hour! Michael absolutely loves his music, and will replay things he loves all the time. Kinda like how we listen to a song that's stuck in our head a million times... but Michael doesn't get sick of it too fast :) Overall, I can never truly express all of my gratitude for having Michael as a brother, but it truly has been a blessing growing up with someone like him.
