Hello everyone!
Hope everyone's been doing great! For today's blog post, I wanted to talk about Michael's progress with his communication skills. As some of you may know, Michael is non-verbal and can't communicate with words like we do. You may have also heard me compare him to a dog, in the sense that he understands the emotions of others, as well as simple commands, like being told to go to the bathroom. He has an incredible sense of understanding, and even though he can't form words, he's vocal in the sense of humming or grunting.
One thing that Michael has incredibly improved with is communicating via telephone. Because I see him only once every 1-2 weeks due to school and swimming, we're attempting to make him more comfortable with me being gone, by talking through the phone. Last year, he did not like the phone or having it up to his ear that much, but he's made a tremendous amount of progress since then.
Now whenever we're on the phone, Michael's face lights up whenever my mom says that I'm on the other end, and recently Michael has even learned how to hold the phone on his own and even listen to the things that I'm telling him. Even more exciting, Michael's starting to "speak" into the phone, and it's really touching to hear how excited he is through his giggles and "humming."
That's it for this week! If you have any questions regarding Michael's communication, feel free to comment below or send in a contact form :)
