Hello everyone!
Today, March 21st, marks Down Syndrome Awareness Day. I cannot begin to express how much of a blessing it's been to have Michael in our lives. His kindness, compassion, and respect for others is incredible. Michael has easily taught myself and those around him patience, respect, and how to spot the simplest forms of happiness in life.
This day officially started 10 years ago in 2006, and I'm beyond grateful for the milestones made around the Down Syndrome community. As I have mentioned in previous posts, up to 90% of pregnant mothers who are expecting a child with Down Syndrome end up getting an abortion, typically due to the lack of understanding regarding DS. The biggest reason I made this blog was to raise awareness around the disabled community, and to help remove the negative connotation surrounding it. Through posting adventures with Michael, I hope to provide others with a glimpse of life living with someone with DS.
As always, if you ever have any questions or suggestions, feel free to submit a contact form, and like and share our Facebook page Beyond the Waves to help spread the awareness :)
