So today Michael and I were a little more adventurous and went on a walk in Santee Lakes (not just on the bridge above it). So, that meant that we had a chance to feed the ducks! Michael loves being around animals, and it's even more fun when you get to feed them! He started giggling so much once some ducks started flocking over after we tossed them some food.
Michael's fine motor skills haven't been fine-tuned quite yet, so it's difficult for him to grab small pieces of food and to toss them farther than a couple feet. However, he still loved just watching the ducks eat the food that we gave them, and even had fun when I helped him toss some :)
*An important thing to know about feeding ducks*
Many times when we visit Santee Lakes, people tend to feed the ducks bread (like Wonder Bread), or sugary cereal, or other fat snacks like potato chips. These things are all really harmful not just to the ducks, but to their environment, since they lack nutrition and form bacteria easily in the water. Opting out for some oats, bran flake cereal, or lettuce is a safer and healthier option for the wildlife living in the Lakes.
