For those of you who are currently surviving through finals, best of luck and remember that the holidays are right around the corner! This past Sunday when Michael came and visited I only had about an hour of time to spend with him due to studying, but it was a fantastic hour! We spent the first part finishing up some Curious George, and then we decided to go on a walk at the park outside my apartment. It was a beautiful day with not too many kids, but Michael was still a little bothered by the couple of kids who were running around screaming.
I tried to get Michael to sit on the swings and swing around in them, but for some reason he absolutely hated them. We used to swing on them all the time when we were kids, but it looks like something might've happened in the past few years that made Michael uncomfortable with them. Either way, I'm determined to get him to have fun with them again with his upcoming visits :)
As for at home, Michael always joins my mom for walks and always has a great time. He loves being around the lakes and seeing the outdoors. Michael is a very big fan of nature and loves going on adventures to see new things. Walking's also a safe way for Michael to exercise, especially since he doesn't have great hand-eye coordination, or fine motor skills. It helps him with his digestion, and keeping him fit as well, as many people with Down Syndrome tend to be overweight. Due to his health conditions (open heart surgery as a baby, constipation issues, vision, etc) it's important for him to have a good diet and to stay active.
